Wolf Spider

Wolf Spiders are very common in Missouri.  Wolf spider (Pardosa sp) carrying its egg sac by its spinners.  Wolf Spider, common name for any of a group of ground-dwelling hunting spiders.  Wolf spiders are hairy and can grow up to just over 1 inch in body length.  Wolf spider ,also called  ground spider  or  hunting spider ,  any member of the   spider   family Lycosidae (order Araneida), a large and widespread group.  They are named for the wolf like habit of chasing and pouncing upon prey.  Wolf spiders are common in almost all terrestrial habitats, but are usually found in areas of shrubs or tall grass where a plentiful insect supply is available
